21-08-07 Steve Haywood: The Enduroman Arch to Arc - 21st August 2007
From www.tricoach.co.uk
"Tri Coach UK performance coach Steve Haywood was successful in his attempt to complete The Enduroman Arch to Arc Triathlon, the world toughest and most gruelling endurance event.
The solo triathlon starts with an 87-mile run from London's Marble Arch to the Dover coast, then a 22 mile English Channel swim to the French coast, and finishes with a 180 mile bike from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
Steve became only the 4th person in history to complete this event!!!"
MASSIVE RESPECT TO STEVE !! - AN AWESOME PERFORMANCE !!
Steve in his modest way is not mentioning the record, although it was only thanks to the bad luck of 2 days of absolutely foul weather that the record didn't fall, as he smashed all 3 stages, but was unfortunately laid up at Dover too long waiting for the channel swim to take the record.
28-04-07 Llanos and Wasle Win in Ibiza
Spain’s Eneko Llanos eeked out a one second victory to capture the title at the Ibiza ETU Carina Wasle, of Austria, had an easier time of it in the elite women’s race, winning by over ninety seconds (1:34:12). Sibylle Matter (SUI) and Ingrid Van Lubek (NED) followed her into the finish line.
10-10-06 Brits storm HomeDeFerro Ibiza Long Distance Triathlon
The Ironcouple', Bella Comerford and Stephen Bayliss, are both celebrating their first ever double victory at the Ibiza Homedeferro long course triathlon (4k swim, 115k Bike, 30K run) which also doubled as the Spanish Long Course Championships.Comerford commented on her win by saying that she "had a great race, feeling strong the whole way. I got into the main pack in the swim, whilst 2 girls got way. It got really rough out in the middle of the sea, so it was hard, but I stayed with them. I felt great on the bike, smooth and strong, and got into the lead by 50km and just kept riding hard and gained a 7 minute advantage going into the run. Feeling great I let the hammer drop and pulled away winning by 27 minutes in the end!"
Meanwhile Bayliss remarked; "I had a great swim coming out own my own in the lead by 30sec after attacking whilst running on the beach at the 1st lap turn around point. I carried this advantage through to end of the bike with two German guys and a lot of Spaniards not too far behind. The run started great, I opened up a 1min advantage only to start to struggle and had problem with my guts, and slipped to 3rd, I was over 2mins down on 1st at the midway point but I started to feel better just before the last lap with 9km to go, so I gave it everything and caught the leader in the last 1km and pulled away a 1 minute advantage at the finish line."
The result shows the summer spent altitude training in Switzerland is paying off, and their form looks to be good going into their last two races of the year, the Florida Ironman and the ITU World Long Course Championships.
..Another ex-pat "Brit" -now racing under the Hong Kong flag, Claire Murray, an ex-professional Rugby player put in a commendable performance and came in 4th, while Sam Renouf, Britain's other competitor in the race, and fellow training partner to Comerford and Bayliss, finished a creditable eleventh and was the second Under 23.
Editor's note: ..It's good to see British domination of Ibiza not soley confined to June thro August in San Antonio
